Legislators are passing bills to make wages more equitable. It’s a fact that women and minorities continue to earn less money than their male counterparts.
These new laws require employers to be forthcoming – or transparent – about their salary data. This includes stating salaries/salary ranges in job postings and revealing what salaries have been paid for a position if asked. Some bills require employers to keep records of a position’s pay scale and benefits. This would give an employee proof if he/she were to bring forth a complaint about wage inequity.
Some legislation also requires that employers let employees know immediately after a position within the company becomes open.
These laws intend to level the playing field when it comes to wages and opportunities. It’s a shame that there have to be laws to correct these inequities – these laws are long overdue.
